Senate Report says no to zombie TPP implementing legislation
February 8, 2017: AFTINET welcomes the report of the Senate inquiry in which Labor has said that the US withdrawal from the TPP means it will not happen and that the implementing legislation should be deferred. The Greens and the Nick Xenophon team have rejected the TPP.
The report reflected many of the criticisms of the TPP from AFTINET and other community groups. Since Labor, the Greens and the Nick Xenophon team have a majority in the Senate, the government cannot pass the TPP implementing legislation, and will not introduce it. Thanks to your support, this is a victory in our seven-year campaign, and will help to ensure that the TPP is not used as a bad model for future trade agreements like the RCEP.
