Pacific Island organisations call for more time to assess PACER-plus
7 June 2017: Pacific Island organisation PANG has called for more time to be given to civil society organisations and the private sector to assess the proposed PACER-Plus trade deal, with the full text being made available only two weeks before the planned signing ceremony.
PANG campaigner Adam Wolfenden said Pacific Island people had a right to know exactly what their governments were signing up for.
"Having less than to weeks to examine over a thousand pages of legal text is woefully inadequate for civil society and the private sector to have meaningful engagement in any form of consultation on this text," he told NZ radio. Read more.
