Key business group whacks the TPP: Peter Martin

18 October 2016: Australia's biggest business organisation, the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) was highly critical of the TPP at a parliamentary hearing yesterday.

Peter Martin reports in Fairfax Media today that the pro-business group was critical of the fact that no independent assessments have been done of the deal to weigh its pros and cons, that the agreement was negotiated behind closed doors and that it was a "preferential" rather than a "free" trade agreement.

Rather than facilitate trade, the ACCI expressed concerns that it could actually make trade more complex, adding to the “noodle bowl of complex trading terms that business has to navigate.” This would "further complicate compliance and costs for business”.
