Privatisation creates unregulated monopolies: ACCC chairman

Privatisation, deregulation and unbounded trade liberalisation are key pillars of the neoliberal economic agenda. This agenda is increasingly being questioned on both sides of politics. So-called FTAs regularly include competition, investment and procurement chapters which push for privatisation.
Most recently, chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission Rod Sims - a longtime proponent of privatisation - is now saying "stop the privatisation".
According to an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, Mr Sims said that in many cases privatisation has created unregulated monopolies which are damaging to the economy and productivity. Read the full article here.
Mr Sims’ comments on privatisation come just days after the economically conservative Productivity Commission said that mega trade deal the Trans-Pacific Partnership had provisions of “questionable benefit” to Australia.
