Fairfax fact check says China FTA will create hardly any jobs
September 14, 2015 Peter Martin, The Age economics editor, says the government has multiplied by 20 the number of jobs which might be created by the China FTA. A fact check by Fairfax media shows that the government-commissioned study of the three China, Japan and Korea FTAs actually shows an increase of only 5434 jobs after 20 years, not the 178,000 claimed by the government. There has been no separate economic study of the China FTA, perhaps because the outcome would be even smaller.
