Growing TPP opposition in the US Congress
March 24, 2015
It’s not new news that it will be a huge challenge for President Obama to get Congress to support the TPP.
Now 19 members of the New York Congressional Delegation, including both Republicans and Democrats have written to Obama opposing the TPP because it will cost jobs in the region - especially manufacturing jobs.
“Western New York bears the scars of poorly negotiated past free trade agreements; scars like lost jobs, shuttered factories, and a generation lost to economic opportunities that were outsourced to foreign competitors,” Congressman Chris Collins told the Orleans Hub.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and 18 democrats in the Senate also sent a letter to US trade representative Michael Froman this week about the TPP and labor reforms.
